Barking Deer are becoming regular visitors on the hillside behind Cardamom House, where there is good cover in the dense vegetation. Occasionally they appear in the clearings above the rocks. More often, we hear them but don’t spot them!

What do you do when you fancy a change of scene and a slightly cooler environment? You go on a picnic of course. A group of us headed into the hills, returning via Padrimalai. It gave us a chance to look at the other side of our mountain.
We offer an optional guided tour of Athoor Village for a minimum of four people. It is conducted by one of our experienced staff members. Generally we go in the morning, as there is more to see. Things to be seen change from day to day, for example, schools are closed on Sundays. On the tour you may visit the goat herders’ village; the local primary school; Athoor Village Square; the Catholic Church; small temples. Some of you who have visited Cardamom House may recall Chris talking about being an extra in a Tamil film!. The staff team also have tales to recalls about their encounters with screen stars. The environments around the house and the lake are superb locations for filming. Sometimes the ‘peace’ of the countryside is disturbed by the repeated strains from the latest hit competing with the cackle of the kingfisher, as they reverberate either from the lake or the temple.
